Use a kitchen and bath enamel for green board walls and ceilings. Mix degreasing cleaner with water in a bucket using a dilution recommended. Start installing the tile while this coat is still wet. This will provide an extra bonding layer between the tile and the greenboard which is important to avoid gaps or bumps in the tile. Complete adhesive coverage is critical on large tiles 12 in. Or larger and even more important when you re tiling over tile.

Never install ceramic tile directly on green board because moisture will penetrate the grout joints between tiles and eventually. Home improvement can be messy business.
