A batten board is nothing more than a 1 x4 or 1 x2 board screwed directly into the wall horizontally.
Tiling a wall with a window.
For the best results the tiles around your window should be in keeping with the tiles on the surrounding wall.
When installing the tiles around windows make sure you first secure the tile corner trim in thinset.
Then measure around the window as to cut the tiles with a score and snap cutter or a wet saw to fit into location.
Instead bring it up to about 3 4 of the height of your tiles.
In order to tile around a window you have to spread thin set on the wall by using a notched trowel.
We recommend using a 50mm x 25mm piece of wood although any will do with a length of around 1 8m depending on the size of your wall.
So if you re dealing with four inch tiles your batten board would start three inches off the floor.
What you need pry bar drill handsaw margin trowel notched trowel grout float wide putty knife caulking gun bucket sponge.
Lay out a line of tiles with space between them then line up the batten edge with that of your first tile.
Don t start it at the floor.
