Studs are placed every 16 inches on center so you should be able to mount your tv on two studs if you re using a tilting mount sometimes three studs if you have a larger television and mount.

There are many different variables that go into mounting a tv.
Mounting on old drywall and plaster can be problematic especially if the material is crumbling away or your wall studs are improperly spaced.
The brackets i use most for fixed tv wall mounting installations from the b tech range but i also thoroughly recommend sanus wall brackets forgetting the tv close to the wall.
Your tv is heavy and the wall you choose for mounting must be able to support it.
Studs that are too far apart can also create problems because the material between them will actually bow in some cases.
If the studs are too far apart there are a couple options.
Using drywall anchors that are insufficient for the tv s weight.
From there place the tv mount where you want it have a second person there to help and mark with a pencil where you need to screw it into the wall.
Locate the two studs in your wall that will support your tv.
Is it safe to mount the wall plate with four screws that would be 6 5 apart.
You can use a piece of plywood and run it across the distance between the studs securing.
You ll need a stud finder drill a drill bit that is around the same size as the mount screws and a screwdriver bit.

In most cases this won t be a problem but depending on the house you may find that the space between studs makes it difficult to mount a tv.
I am trying to mount a 48 samsung tv to a wall between two windows.
Because of the unique location the studs are a bit off both are 24 from each window and i believe them to be 1 5 vs standard 2x4.
If you want the tv as flush as possible to the wall i would recommend using a fixed wall mount.
